Nicollet Commons Park is so much more than just a splash pad, but if you ask any kid that has been there the water is the highlight! We live pretty close to the park, but that is only a small part of why my family loves it so much. In the past year we have been to the park for:
- Halloween Trick or Treat Trail
- Concerts (kid and adult bands)
- Festivals – Burnsville Art fest, International Fest and more
- Outdoor movie showings
- And of course, to play in the water!
And all of these events are free!
Parking is abundant with street parking and ramps (also free). There are many restaurants within walking distance. Our favorite thing to do is to walk across the street to Nha Sang to get Chinese take-out. We bring it back to the park, find a grassy spot, and share some lo mein. Also within walking distance you will find: Subway, Caribou Coffee, Jo Jo’s, Jensen’s Café and the Mediterranean Cruise Café.
The water features are great. It was constructed to look like a stream running through the park- no bright colored plastic here. Instead the kids are running through the creek and climbing up the waterfalls. There is also a nice section where the water is about 2 inches deep, perfect for little ones crawling around that still want to get in on the water action.
The park is very pretty. We often see people there to take formal pictures (e.g. senior pictures). As an amateur photographer, it is one of my favorite places to take pictures of my kids. They are always full of smiles and having fun, which is when most of the best pictures are taken!
