The Minnesota Freedom Band is a Twin Cities-based, non-profit Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Allied (GLBTA) concert, jazz, and marching band.  We are committed to presenting quality performances, providing opportunities for our members to improve musicianship, and gathering to build relationships with each other and with our community.

Why bring flowers to your mother when you can bring your mother to the flowers? Spring is a wonderful time to hike through the park to see which wildflowers are blooming.

Mother’s Day Wildflower Stroll (Interstate State Park,Taylors Falls MN)
Treat your mother to an afternoon of wildflowers and river views. Stroll a loop one-mile loop along a mostly flat section of the River Trail.

Como Zoo Mother’s Day Bonsai Show (Como Zoo, St. Paul MN)
Take Mom to this annual tradition! The Minnesota Bonsai Society will be displaying some of their finest work in the Ordway Gardens. Trained professionals will also be on-hand to answer any questions you may have about the art of Bonsai. Family tree anyone?

Bring your special mom to meet some of our special mothers during our Macy’s Mother’s Day Weekend celebration.  Moms receive free admission on Sunday.

Mother’s Day Weekend (Oliver Kelley Farm, Elk River MN)
Explore the Kelley Farm as it springs to life on Mother’s Day Weekend. Help plant seeds in the garden, harvest the first greens and meet the new baby animals as they try out their young legs. Mothers are admitted free when accompanied by a child.

Friends School Plant Sale (MN State Fair Grounds, St. Paul MN)
With more than 2,500 plant varieties, it may be the largest plant sale in the U.S. It’s a fund-raising event sponsored by the Friends School of Minnesota, a small Quaker K – 8 school in the Hamline-Midway area in Saint Paul.

Sunday Night Magic – A Mother’s Day Magic Show (Minneapolis, MN)
Performers: Chicago’s venerable Magic Cabaret (Chicago’s longest running weekly magic show) are taking over for the mother of all magic shows.

The Secret Garden (Schneider Theater, Bloomington MN)
This musical telling of the classic children’s story runs April 15 – May 14th

Mother Goosed (Barn Theater, Willmar MN)
Loaded with tongue-in-cheek humor for audiences of all ages, this creative and witty play does not disappoint! Joe, a cop in the Fairy Tale precinct, Nursery Rhyme division, investigates the disappearance of Mother Goose. This humorous play runs May 11-14.

Listen to Your Mother (Riverview Theater, Minneapolis MN)
Listen to Your Mother is a series of live, on-stage readings across North America on or around Mother’s Day. Tickets $18 online, $20 at the door.

Twin Cities Ballet – Coppelia Nouveau (Ames Center, Burnsville MN)
With performances May 12-14, Coppelia Nouveau is a ballet set in 1920’s Paris.

Colton Peltier – A Mother’s Day Concert (Hastings Art Center, Hastings MN)
Colton Peltier made his first orchestra debut at the age of 8, he is now a senior at the Julliard School of Music. Concert starts at 3pm.

Bakken Trio Concert – A Mother’s Day Concert (Macphail Center for Music, Minneapolis MN)
Join the Bakken Trio for an all-French concert including a rarely heard performance of Bizet’s 4 hand piano duet Jeux d’enfants (Children’s Play).

A Celebration of Mother’s Concert by Chione (Northfield, MN)
Chione will be playing music written by various mothers and daughters in music.

St. Paul Civic Symphony Mother’s Day Free Concert (Landmark Center , St. Pau MN)
A slavic bouquet at 1pm. Don’t miss this beautiful violin concerto.

 

CRAFTY MOMS

25th Annual St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour (Taylors Falls Area)
60 potters at 7 different studios. Tour is going on May 12-14.

 

MISCELLANEOUS

Wheels for Women (Farmington, MN)
A car show for a cause. This event is raising money for Newgate School’s program “Wheels for Women”, which is a program that helps single mothers get vehicles.

Celebrate Moms at Twin Cities Premium Outlets, (Eagan MN)
Special events including free canvas paining, free massages, deals and more. There is also a 1-mile walk for the American Cancer Society taking place at 10am.

Summit Avenue Walking Tours (St. Paul, MN)
Take a 1.5 mile stroll along Summit Avenue to learn about the homes and people that built them. 2pm
